Animal Protection Voters Laws & Paws Event Goes Online

first_img The Laws & Paws event celebrates the passage of Senate Bill 57, the affordable low-cost spay/neuter bill that was passed by the New Mexico Legislature and signed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham earlier this year. That bill created a new sustainable funding mechanism for low-cost spay/neuter services for New Mexico families’ animals, and it is expected to conserve local tax dollars while reducing shelter animal euthanasia. The Laws & Paws event will also serve to build the organization’s strength for the next critical fight to ban cruel traps, snares, and poisons on New Mexico’s public lands.Animal Protection Voters has been a driving force behind monumental protections for animals in the New Mexico State Legislature. Founded in 2002, the group was behind the 17-year fight to ultimately ban cockfighting in the state, making New Mexico the second-to-last state in the country to do so. Animal Protect Voters also has succeeded in lobbying for statutory changes to make extreme animal cruelty a felony, as well as require bittering agents in antifreeze to prevent accidental poisonings. More recently, in 2019, Animal Protection Voters won a hard-fought victory for New Mexico’s iconic wildlife by pushing successfully to ban horrific coyote killing contests.Anyone can “attend” the Laws & Paws event online by visiting apvnm.org/lawspaws20 through June 12. APV News:What does a nonprofit organization do when a global pandemic prevents them from hosting their annual fundraiser in-person? New Mexico’s only statewide legislative advocacy group dedicated to animal protection issues, Animal Protection Voters (APV), decided to pivot and host their second annual Laws & Paws event online. Rather than the two-hour event held previously at APV’s Santa Fe office, the event now spans several weeks, culminating Friday, June 12, and anyone across the state can attend. The event schedule includes highlights such as:Unveiling of a DIY signature summer cocktail recipe, dubbed “Victory 57,” created by local business The Liquid MuseUnveiling of DIY plant-based hors d’oeuvres recipes created by Tony Quintana, Plant-Based Eating program manager of Animal Protection Voters’ sister nonprofit, Animal Protection of New MexicoVideo messages from special guests, andDrawings for prizes, including:a brand new electric bike from Sport Systems and 505 Cycling,a custom pen & ink drawing of the winner’s companion animal by Animal Protection Voters’ talented marketing director, Jessi Princiotto, anda custom sculpture of the winner’s companion animal by Animal Protection Voters’ artistic deputy director, Daniel Abram.last_img read more

Chinese law firm eyes UK office

first_imgChinese firm AllBright Law Offices will open a London-based office, its first outside China, the Gazette can reveal. The firm, which has 16 offices across China, has a team of nine lawyers in the UK this week exploring potential locations with a view to setting up an office before the end of the year.Speaking to the Gazette, Yu Bingguang (pictured), partner at the firm’s Shanghai office, said a resolution was passed earlier this year by the firm’s 370 partners and was later confirmed by its executive committee. It is not known yet exactly what form the new office will take but AllBright is considering the possibility of joining forces with an existing UK firm.Yu said: ‘We want to consolidate our strong position in China as clients are increasingly demanding cross-border legal services’.He added that the decision to set-up a London office had been in the pipeline since before the EU referendum but that the vote to leave presented an ‘opportunity’.‘The time zone makes it good for doing business and for centuries it has been the financial centre. This cannot be taken away over night,’ he said. The firm has 1,500 lawyers and is among the largest in China though Yu said it was keen to increase its international coverage.Although it is exploring the possibility of a joint venture Yu said it was keen to retain its branding as the firm is an ‘established Chinese brand’.Last year, international firm Dentons merged with China’s largest firm Dacheng, in a partnership that created the biggest law firm in the world by lawyer headcount.last_img read more

New Flexible Dual-Band FPC Antennas for Wi-Fi and ISM

first_imgAntenova has introduced three new flexible FPC (Fabry-Perot Cavity) antennas for applications in industrial and consumer electronics. Two of the antennas, named Dromus and Amoris  are high performance dual band Wi-Fi antennas operating on the 2.4 to 2.5 GHz and 4.9 to 5.9 GHz wireless bands, including Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/j/n/ac. They are suitable for access points, portable electronics, PC cards, games consoles, set-top boxes, network devices, and wearable technology. They are made to different dimensions, so that electronics manufacturers can select the best fit and performance for their wireless device. The third antenna, named Montana operates in the ISM bands of 863-870 MHz and 902-928 MHz. This antenna is for use in industry, remote sensors, smart metering, medical devices, monitoring equipment, lighting, security and automotive applications. The flexible FPC antennas are each just 0.15mm thick, and are supplied with a peel-back self-adhesive area to fix them inside a small electronic device, in various configurations. They are supplied complete with a cable and a connector to attach them to the underside covering or housing of a manufacturer’s electronic product. Each antenna weighs less than 0.5g. The three new antennas can be popped into the IPEX MHF (UFL) mating connector on a host PCB or wireless module, and are effectively “plug and play”. Antenova’s design team adopts a philosophy of Design For Integration (DFI) – an approach to antenna design which puts the integration into the customer’s device right at the heart of the design process. Antenova also provides technical assistance to customers during the testing stages of the design process. Dromus, Amoris and Montana are the first three antennas to ship from Antenova’s new family of “flexiiANT” products, which was announced in May this year. Their product names follow the company’s tradition of naming each antenna after a species of ant from around the globe. These antennas are targeted for use in M2M and Internet of Things sectors applications. Analysts expect the IOT/M2M sector to grow to nearly $250 Billion by 2020. The new flexible antennas are available to order now.last_img read more
